Master Plan

This is perhaps the most important piece of the playscape project: The Plan! A Master Plan for your playscape is color drawing of your space drawn to scale with all the features and elements. It is accompanied by a written report describing all the features and areas plus a beginning “wish list” of materials and volunteer labor for the project.

A Master Plan is an important tool for many reasons:

  • Helps you visualize your new space and goals.
  • Helps potential funders and donors see your playscape dream and how they can help.
  • Helps the planning process whether you are building all at once or in stages over time.

PROCESS:

We visit your space for 2 days and take in as much information as we can to help you create the Master Plan. We hold brainstorming meetings with staff and parents; we share time with your children indoors and outside to get a feel for what their day is like; we spend time in your outdoor space taking measurements and imagining the possibilities of your new space; and we visit local inspirational community places to get ideas of native plants, local artists, and what the regional history and environment is all about. We then return home to work on your project and create your Master Plan.

WHO IT IS BEST FOR:

The Master Plan is good for all groups who are creating a new outdoor environment or looking to improve an existing space. A Master Plan is an important component of a playscape project whether you are constructing the space all at once, or in phases over time as money and energy allow.

The best way for us to help create a Master Plan is to begin by visiting your space, but we also offer a “remote” Master Plan option where we help develop a plan based on drawings, photos, and wish lists that you send us.

Some groups work with us to help develop a Master Plan and then take the project over on their own. Other groups work with us on the total project, from Master Plan through Construction.
